Yes, in Costa Rica there are many things that you should be aware of if you are new to the area and looking for a rental. A Tico (common name for a Costa Rican native) will nine out of ten times rent an apartment to another Tico for much less than a foreigner. Rates can change up to 50% actually. So, unless you are a Tico, do not for your own financial well being, be the one that places the first call about the cost and the apartments availablility. Let a local make the call for you first.
